Wicca Essays - Wicca, Modern Paganism, Contemporary Witchcraft

Wicca Religion The many mysteries and complexities of the religion of Wicca originate from the Celts, the druids of Britain and the mysteries of the Cauldron of Cerridwen of Cerridwen and teachings of the transformation hidden in the story of Taliesin. The oldest know European Wiccan practices actually originate form the ancient regions in and around Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece and Italy. In most any case this culture predates the Celtic tradition by at least a thousand years. In the Celtic lands the druids taught what they called " Mystery tradition", which was a blend of indigenous belief and foreign influences. Many people today believe that the druid cult was the surviving remnant of an earlier Indo-European priesthood, where the practices originate, Old European is a region encompassing Italy and Greece and also reaching into Czechoslovakia, southern Poland and the western Ukraine. These places are considered to be where the foundation of the ancient Wiccan mysteries were created. The history of the believers in this religion when in the middle of the first century BC the Celts were caught between the expansion of the Roman Empire along the Rhine and Danube and the Germanic invaders form the south. By the end of the century the Celts had lost their command on the continent and were later held by the Romans who moved on to invade and Britain, eventually their culture was transformed by centuries of roman occupation and the Roman Catholic Church. The ancient pagan traditions were driven into an underground society where they survived within the old religion of Wicca. The history of the old religion goes back as far as the hunter-gathers emergence into an agricultural community. The root of Wicca as an religion date back as far as the Ice Age, when the human were painting and carving pictures on cave walls. When the hunter-gather, forest-dwelling humans began to emerge into an agriculture society they brought with them the "Ancient Deity" forms of the wilderness. The Stag-Horned God of the forest was transformed into the Goat-God of the pasture. The God of the forest then becomes the God of the harvest. The early ancestors of Wiccans' worshipped the great Goddess, who is personified as the mysteries of women. As the Great Goddess, she reflected the mysterious and powerful nature of women to bleed for days without growing weak and to give birth to another human being. Not only was this power a mystery to early men, it was also a mystery to women themselves. Out of the need to understand these abilities, the women isolated themselves from men and formed female societies. When the word "Wicca" first became known to the public, it was used to refer to the old pre-Christian European religion. The meaning today has changed to fit the view of the Neo-Pagan and New Age concepts. In reality Wicca is a nature religion concentrating on the energies that flowed over the earth. Legend tells us that great Gods who watched over their followers during the daily course of food gathering and preparation and delivered them safely from the fall of humankind. 1484, was the persecution stage of the witches which turned into an uncontrollable epidemic. In the first year 41 people were killed and burned in Como, Italy. In 1510, 140 witches were burned at Brescia and 300 more at Como, Italy 3 years later. At Valcanoia 70 people were burned and the inquisitor claimed to have another 5,000 under suspension Germany saw over 6,000 executions and northern figure about 50,000. In England, 1951, the last of the laws against witchcraft were repealed by parliament, soon after a revival of the cult arose in the Great British. During the 1950's and 60's Wicca grew and expanded parts of Europe and into the United States and Australia. Many Wiccan and Neo-Pagans magazines were established, there for creating a network for the Pagan community. Two of the earliest most successful periodicals were "Green Egg" and Circle Network News " which are still important publications today. "The Wiccan Pagan Press Alliance (WPPA)" now servers as a network and support system for writers and magazines in the Pagan community. The basic teachings of the old Wiccan ways are based on the ways of nature and humankind's understanding of spirituality as revealed in the sense of a healthy community. The philosophy teaches common courtesy and respect for others so that the essence of our spirituality can be discovered. All different forms of life are respected, and everything is of equal importance. The only difference is things are on different levels of evolution,

Writer’s choice Essays

Writer’s choice Essays Writer’s choice Essay Writer’s choice Essay Name: Lecturer: Course: Date: Message Conveyance in Audio Visual and Written Means Have you ever noticed a slight change in the weather during winter, and that it is not cold as it used to be? The main reason attributed to the phenomenon is that, unlike the past few years, we are now living under the effect of global warming. Global warming is a state whereby the earth’s temperature rises to dangerous levels that pose a negative effect on the inhabitants’ wellbeing. This occurs when greenhouse gases (methane and carbon dioxide) rise to large levels, trapping heat from the sun and in the atmosphere, thereby increasing the global temperature. An increase in the global temperature causes sea levels to rise, changing the pattern and amount of rainfall, and increases subtropical desert expansion. On the extreme, global warming is likely to cause severe droughts, heat waves and heavy precipitation. Consequently, human and animal adaptation limits to these kinds of stimuli will be greatly exceeded, and the likelihood of survival is going to be minimal. Many people have come out in numerous ways to show that they are fully aware of the seriousness of global warming and a video on You Tube â€Å"Stop Global Warming† is among them. This documentary video highlights on the challenges animals have to go through because of the detrimental effects of global warming, and they end up subsiding because these animals do not have the capability to survive in these terrible conditions. An academic article â€Å"Global Warming† written by John Houghton, also points out that global warming is an epidemic that is harming nature, and people are accelerating through the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation, which are the main reasons accelerating global warming. Grasping the message of the issue in question, however, will largely depend on the means of conveyance, be it through video or an article. You Tube is an online webpage where people can share videos about a wild variety of subjects from entertaining to scientific issues, and mostly it contains informal and simple words. In a different means, people are endeavoring to solicit for global warming awareness by writing academic articles, which highlight on the causes, detrimental effects, and solutions to global warming. Word choice and organization are features that differ from the two genres. The You Tube video website contains simple words and incomplete sentences because the purpose is to make people aware of global warming despite their age, and the material is organized in a serious of pictures that create the motion video with one sentence at the end. The main purpose of the video is to provide information and entertain people at the same time. On the other hand, the academic article is written in formal, complex and complete sentences because the audiences in this case are educated people who care about global warmin g and for scientists as well, and the information is organized in a structured manner. The main purpose of these academic articles is to provide information on global warming on all fronts. Academic articles should always be formal, something that is not necessary in videos because it has a view for entertaining as well. Take for example this sample excerpt from an article, â€Å"Because of its negative impacts on human communities (including for instance substantial sea-level rise) and on ecosystems, global warming is the most important environmental problem the world faces.† The previous sentence is complete and uses formal words such as negative instead of bad, and presents a complete thought and idea because it is telling that human false habits are creating the most threatening problem that the environment could ever face. On the other hand, there are only two sentences in the video, â€Å"If you give up, they give up† and â€Å"stop global warming†. The two sentences from the video are incomplete because there is no complete thought and many people might be confused by the meaning behind it, and their perception of the statement â€Å"they gi ve up†. In real sense, this statement should explain more on its topic, but this how videos works the pictures talks and give thousand meanings and ideas to the audience. Therefore, the simple and incomplete sentences will make sense and will achieve their goal when one watches the content of the video. The sentence is incomplete as well as informal because the purpose is to ask random people walking in the street, and the person will opt to use simple words so people could understand clearly. In brief, word choice and sentence structure is reliant on the purpose of message presenting and the type of the audience in question. In order to deliver the idea to the audience the information must be organized in a particular manner, with regard to the type of the genre. In addition it can be determined that You Tube videos are more creative and free compared to academic articles which are presented in a paragraphs form that follows a certain rules like an introduction, body and conclusion that limits creativity. In academic articles, all the material and the information are organized in a form of paragraph. Paragraphs start with a main point; for example in the article, the writer starts with a brief introduction about a topic such as global warming to give the reader a general idea about the main topic. Additionally, providing examples to clarify ideas, as the writer states, â€Å"Many of the likely characteristics of the resulting changes in climate (such as more frequent heat waves, increases in rainfall, increase in frequency and intensity of many extreme climate events) can be identified.† This sent ence is helping the reader to have a better understanding of the idea, which is fundamental in this type of genre because the purpose is to provide information to the reader. After the introduction part, the writer ushers in an explanation part and may use appropriate examples to support the main idea of the article. These examples include real life facts on the issue, and may talk about the gradual but constant retreat of the polar icecaps in the global poles. On the other hand, all the information in the video is explained mainly through pictures because this genre involves sharing ideas through visuals. Take for example a scene in a video where a disparate polar bear decides to commit suicide because its habitat is falling apart because of the detrimental effects of global warming. This scene presents an argument on global warming better than thousand-word article. A real life situation or experience will have a greater impact on the intended audience compared to an argument on basic facts. This is because an audience will have the tendency of putting themselves in the center of that particular situation. Moreover, the video goes on to cover the whole idea supported by simple and incomplete sentences such as â€Å"If you give up, they give up† just to offer an advice to the audience and to conclude the video. These final words act as a climax of the entire scene. The way of organization plays a major role in the effectiveness of p resenting information, and each genre, be it an article or You Tube video, both have a different way of organization. However, their similarity manifests itself in the issue they are discussing. In conclusion, by comparing the two genres about global warming, You Tube videos and academic articles, I found out that each genre possesses a different structure. The main difference revolves around word choice and the way of organizing the ideas and the information; however, they both discuss the same issue, which is global warming. Nevertheless, the good thing about having a variety of genres talking about the same issue or topic is that the audience will have a sovereign opportunity to choose the most appropriate option which they can easily understand, and grasp the main idea according to the learning style or their level of education. Therefore, dependent on an individuals taste and preference, one should have an appropriate source of information between a documentary video and a written article.

Global Warming Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 4

Global Warming - Essay Example As an example, in Colorado struggles with coyotes attacking humans. What they have not realized is that the natural habitat of the coyote is gone and they have to hunt for food other places. Each time an environment is changed, it causes problems to both humans and animals. Gore says that many people believe that the earth is too big for people to influence it in anyway. The reason that people think this is because they are not directly affected by global warming. What Gore is saying is an "inconvenient truth" because people do not want to think about dying out or about how they will be affected by the misuse of the earth. Gore talks a lot about green house gases and how they are building up to create more problems in the atmosphere. I agree that this is causing problems and we cannot say that nothing is happening. Why are the polar ice caps melting and why are animals dying? As an example, Carleton (2004) reports that the Polar Bear is almost extinct, because they have had to swim long distances to find food; many have drowned as they try to follow the ice. At the end of the film he gives many ideas of what people can do to help the environment. I do believe what he says that it is going to take one person at a time to save the environment because many people do not want to believe this truth. I recycle as much as I can at my house. Our city has a recycling program and they send out information about what can be recycled and what cannot. Some restaurants that I frequent have recycle bins and tell you what and how to recycle. I do not have a car with low carbon emission, but when I purchase a new car I will go for one with low carbon emissions or a hybrid. I have been doing a lot of research on hybrids and I like what I have read about them. If I had children, I would help them learn about the earth and help them take care of it better than our generation has done. I think that people using alternative sources to heat their homes like solar

Ethics in Nursing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words

Ethics in Nursing - Essay Example This essay â€Å"Ethics in Nursing† discusses the role of nurses in dealing with elderly people and ethical issues of this profession. A nurse in the first place is accountable to people who really need nursing care. While doing her or his job, the nurse promotes an atmosphere in which the human rights, values, customs and sacred beliefs of the person, family and community are high valued. And it is a nurse who together with the whole society is held liable for beginning and promoting activity to satisfy the requirements of people actually that of vulnerable persons in the area of health and social necessities of the public. Among main standards in nursing care are the hard-edged ability to provide this care that supports standards of personal health and the unprecedented ability to increase confidence of public that keeps up standards of personal conduct. Thus, apparently these are both rules and laws that are commonly supposed to stand for the minimal written standards for n ursing practice. For instance, there are also some laws that protect a patient from harm, though they certainly do not keep nurses responsible for the level of ethics that contributes to high quality nursing care. However, nursing cannot count only on external means such as laws and diplomas as well as just on self-reflection to give the profound guarantee of the ethical competence in care. Nursing competency from the ethical point of view represents a complicated system that demands a great number of means. In order to practice nursing competently it is necessary both to obey external means of nursing competence and to reflect ethically about competence. A nurse must always bring up questions regarding the nature of ethical competence in their profession, for example, questions about general ethical standards in nursing care and ways to satisfy them (Thompson,

Halophytes and Glycophytes - A Review Research Paper

Halophytes and Glycophytes - A Review - Research Paper Example The proteome profile of germinating seeds reveals that salinity probably inhibited the degradation of seed storage proteins leading to the slower germination rate. Maximum delay in the germination process was observed during 0-72 hours as illustrated in Fig 02. However, at the vegetative stage, C. maritime plants exposed to moderate salinity (0-100 mM NaCl) have depicted enhanced growth with expansion in leaves and elevated photosynthetic activity in saline conditions showing a typical halophytic trait (Debez et al., 2012) as illustrated in Fig. 03. Aquaculture provides with a significant proportion of seafood for human consumption and is regarded as one of the key sustainable means to meet the rising food demand. However, the highly saline wastewater discharged from marine and coastal farms has adverse implications for environmental sustainability. The halophyte plant species have tremendous potential to treat the discharged wastewater in constructed wetlands on one hand and produce valuable crops on the other. The cultivation of saltmarsh plant, Salicornia europaea, on submerged-subsurface constructed wetland filter beds yielded significant reduction of phosphorus and nitrogen nutrients from a farm wastewater when evaluated over a period of 88 days.  A schematic diagram of nutrient removal is illustrated in Fig 04. The total dissolved inorganic nitrogen (TDIN) was removed up to 98.2  Ã‚ ±Ã‚  2.2%. The removal of dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) was comparatively less and amounted to 23-69%. The total dissolved inorganic p hosphorus (TDIP) was reduced by 36–89%. The correlation between TDIN daily load and TDIN removal from S. Europaea is illustrated in Fig. 05. The S. Europea halophyte can thus be used as an efficient and cost-effective way to treat saline wastewater for nitrogen and phosphorus contents in marine aquaculture (Webb  et al., 2012).

Estimation of Tramadol Hydrochloride and Diclofenac Sodium

Estimation of Tramadol Hydrochloride and Diclofenac Sodium Derivative Spectrophotometric Method for Estimation of Tramadol Hydrochloride and Diclofenac Sodium in Pharmaceutical Dosage Form Pekamwar S. S., Kalyankar T. M, Lokhande M. V. ABSTRACT Purpose: Tramadol is opioid analgesic and diclofenac is NSAID and are used in severe to moderate pain management. Combination of Tramadol and Diclofenac drugs were approved by FDA to market in India with a dose of 50 mg for TRA and 75 mg DIC respectively. Method: The employed method is based on first order derivative spectrophotometry. Wavelengths 278.7 nm and 281.7 nm were selected for the estimation of the Tramadol and Diclofenac respectively by taking the first order derivative spectra. The concentrations of both drugs were determined by proposed method. The results of analysis have been validated statistically and by recovery studies as per ICH guidelines. Result: Both the drugs obey Beer’s law in the concentration range of 5-30 ÃŽ ¼g mL-1 and 5-45 ÃŽ ¼g mL-1 with regression 0.9997 and 0.9990, intercept- 0.0008 and 0.0062 and slope- 0.004 and 0.0316 for TRA and DIC respectively. The accuracy and reproducibility results are close to 100% with 2% RSD. Conclusion: A simple, a ccurate, precise, sensitive and economical procedures for simultaneous estimation of Tramadol and Diclofenac in tablet dosage form have been developed Key words: Tramadol, Diclofenac, First order derivative spectrophotometry, ICH guidelines, Validation, FDA Introduction Tramadol Hydrochloride (TRA) is a synthetic 4-phenylpiperidine analogue of codeine. Chemically it is cis -2-[(dimethylamino) methyl]-1-(3 methoxyphenyl) cyclohexanol hydrochloride (Figure-1), is a centrally acting opioid analgesic, indicated in the treatment of moderate to severe pain. TRA is used to treat postoperative (dental, cancer etc.) pain, treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, restless legs syndrome, motor neuron disease and fibromyalgia and as an adjuvant to NSAID therapy 1-8. Chemically Diclofenac Sodium (DIC) is 2-{2-[(2, 6- dichlorophenyl) amino] phenyl} acetic acid (Figure -2), is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drug. DIC gives anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and analgesic action thought the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis by inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX). DIC is used in acute to chronic treatment of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis 9-19. Tramadol (50 mg) and Diclofenac (75 mg) combination, resulting central and peripheral analgesia a â€Å"balanced analgesia† used in wider spectrum of pain management. In the literature survey it was found that various analytical methods involving spectrophotometry 1-4, HPLC (High-performance liquid chromatography) 5-7, stability-indicating RP-HPLC (Reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography) 8, and GC/MS (Gas chromatography- mass spectrophotometry) 7 have been reported for TRA in single form and in combination with other drugs. Several analytical methods have been reported for DIC in single form and in combination with other drugs including spectrophotometry 9-12, HPLC 13-16, RP-HPLC 17,18, and LC-MS (Liquid chromatography-mass spectrophotometry) 19. Extensive literature survey reveals that derivative spectrophotometric method is yet not reported for simultaneous determination of TRA and DIC in tablet dosage form. In the present work an attempt is being made to develop simple, precise, accurate and reproducible first-order derivative UV- spectrophotometric method for simultaneous estimation of TRA and DIC in combined dosage form. Materials and Methods Apparatus and Instruments The instrument used in the present study was UV- spectrophotometer UV-1800 (Shimadzu, Japan) with spectral bandwidth of 2 nm and 10 mm a matched quartz cell was used. All weighing was done on Digital balance (Anamed). Chemicals and Reagents Analytically pure drug sample of TRA and DIC was kindly provided by Supriya Lifescience Ltd. (Mumbai, India) and J.B. Chemicals Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Gujarat, India) respectively. The pharmaceutical dosage form used in this study was unavailable in market but has been approved by the FDA to market in India. So this bilayer (Core) tablets manufactured in School of Pharmacy, S.R.T.M. University, Nanded, labeled to contain 50 mg of TRA and 75 mg of DIC. All chemicals (AR grade) were purchased from RANKEM, Delhi, India. Preparation of standard stock solutions Accurately weighed 10 mg of TRA and DIC transferred to two separate 100 mL volumetric flasks. Added sufficient methanol and sonicated for 5 min. and volume was made upto 100 mL with methanol. 1 mL of the stock solution was further diluted to 10 mL with methanol to get a working standard solution of concentration 10 ÃŽ ¼g mL-1 of both TRA and DIC and scanned in the wavelength range of 200-400 nm. First-Order Derivative Spectroscopic Method 20, 21 Working standard solution of concentration 10 ÃŽ ¼g mL-1 of both TRA and DIC were scanned in spectrum mode between 400-200 nm using methanol as a blank. Then zero order spectrums of both the drugs were transformed mathematically into their individual first order derivative spectrum and first derivative overlain of both the drugs were obtained in 400-200 nm which is shown in figure 3, figure 4 and figure 5. It was observed that wavelengths selected for quantification of both the drugs were 281.7 nm for TRA and 271.7 nm for DIC in such a way that at zero crossing of one drug another drug shows substantial absorbance (Zero crossing method). Therefore these two wavelengths were employed for the estimation of TRA and DIC without any interference. The calibration curves were plotted at these two wavelengths. Preparation of Sample Stock Solution Contents of twenty tablets were weighed accurately and powdered. Powder equivalent to 50 mg of TRA and 75 mg of DIC was weighed and dissolved in 50 mL of methanol with the aid of ultrasonication for 5 min. The solution was filtered through Whatman filter paper no. 41 to a 100 mL volumetric flask. Filter paper was washed with methanol, adding washings to the volumetric flask and volume was made up to the mark with methanol to get sample stock solution which was further diluted with methanol to get final concentration of solution (TRA 10 ÃŽ ¼g mL-1 and DIC 15 ÃŽ ¼g mL-1 ) in the linearity range. Results and Discussions Linearity and range A standard stock solution was prepared for both TRA and DIC; they were serially diluted to yield six for TRA and nine for DIC standard solutions. For UV spectrophotometric method, linearity was obtained in concentration range of 5-30 ÃŽ ¼g mL-1 and 5-45 ÃŽ ¼g mL-1; with regression 0.9997 and 0.9990, intercept- 0.0008 and 0.0062 and slope 0.004 and 0.0316 for TRA and DIC respectively. The results are depicted in table1. Accuracy and precision To ascertain the accuracy of the proposed methods, recovery studies were carried out by standard addition method at three different levels (80%, 100% and 120%) as per ICH guidelines. Known amount of pure TRA and DIC were added in preanalyzed powder of tablet formulation and analysis was carried out by proposed method for recovery at each level and % recovery, SD, % RSD was calculated. Results of recovery studies are shown in Table 2. The accuracy and reproducibility is evident from the data as results are close to 100 % and the value of standard deviation and % R.S.D. were found to be Specificity The proposed method was found to be specific as there is no interference from other excipients. Results of analysis of tablet formulation Analysis of formulated tablet was carried out and the amounts recovered were expressed as percentage amount of tablet claim. The percentage recovery for TRA is 100.52 ±1.486 and DIC is 99.57 ±0.555 respectively. The proposed methods was evaluated by the assay (n = 6) of formulated tablets containing TRA and DIC. The results of assay are presented in Table 3. LOD and LOQ LOD was found to be 0.0686  µg mL-1and 0.155  µg mL-1 for TRA and DIC respectively. LOQ was found to be 0.2081  µg mL-1 and 0.4719  µg mL-1 for TRA and DIC respectively. The results of LOD and LOQ are shown in table 4. Conclusion The first-order derivative spectrophotometric method has been developed for simultaneous determination of TRA and DIC in combined dosage form. The developed and validated first order derivative spectrophotometric method is simple, economic, accurate and reproducible. The method was validated as per ICH guidelines in terms of linearity, specificity, accuracy, precision, limits of detection (LOD) and limits of quantification (LOQ). The proposed validated method can be utilized for routine analysis and quality control assay of TRA and DIC in combined dosage form. Comparing Mortality in Hemingways Indian Camp and Joyces Araby :: Comparison Compare Contrast Essays

The Subject of Mortality in Hemingway's Indian Camp and Joyce's Araby Nick came face to face with his own mortality in Hemingway's "Indian Camp" and, like most of us, denied its inevitability, evidenced by the last line of the story: "In the early morning lake sitting in the stern of the boat with his father rowing, he felt sure that he would never die." (31) His first experience with the beginning of life was far from the joyous occasion most of us are taught to associate with birth. Coupled with his first experience with a violent suicide in the same setting, his feeling that he would never die is understandable. I have experienced the loss of a family member in childbirth at an early age and my reaction was much the same as Nick's. It is that same conviction that causes us to continue to do things that we know is dangerous: that feeling that one has that "it will never happen to me". Perhaps Nick also learned a lesson from the callousness displayed by his uncle and father toward the Indian woman as well as the other Indians in the story. Nick's father regards the screams of the Indian woman as unimportant, as evidenced by his comment to Nick: "No, I haven't any anaesthetic," his father said. "But her screams are not important. I don't hear them because they are not important." (29) Yet later, when Nick questions him as to why the husband killed himself, he admits, "I don't know, Nick. He couldn't stand things, I guess." (30) Maybe Nick surmised that the woman's screams his father considered unimportant and dismissed so readily may have led to her husband's suicide. The protagonist in Joyce's "Araby" learns a different lesson: the bitter disappointment that is sometimes the result of youthful infatuation. The yearning he feels for Mangan's sister is an emotion of which only he is aware: "I had never spoken to her, except for a few casual words, and yet her name was like a summons to all my foolish blood".

Blanche as a character although resembling, at times, the possible to be of more significant character and command the acknowledgment she deserves, is trapped into a bubble of what can be considered feminine and is convinced by her ain bomber scruples and those around her that the lone manner to acquire what she wants is to move within certain stereotypes to happen herself any adult male to supply the stableness she craves, Stella likewise takes the function in a less overdone mode but this in some ways is more powerful as she has the power over Stanley to carry on him as she wishes but herself deems it merely acceptable to run back to him every clip he calls. : Suicide in its simplest signifier because society has condemned her to our four walls of muliebrity. A Streetcar Named Desire presents a crisp experimental review of the manner the establishments and attitudes of postwar America placed limitations on women’s actions and lives. Williams uses Blanche’s and Stella’s dependance on work forces to expose and measure the intervention of adult females during the passage from the old to the new South. Both Blanche and Stella see male comrades as their lone means to accomplish felicity, Blanche and Stella throughout the drama remain in the mentality that to get a male comrade is their lone true and justified way to happiness, accordingly they form a dependence to work forces for both their nutriment and their self-image. Blanche criticizes Stella for remaining in a physically opprobrious relationship with her incubation hubby Stanley, therefore in bend knocking Stella for depending on Stanley for emotional support and sexual alleviation, Stella declares she is not in anything she wants to acquire out of’ this minute in the drama shocks Blanche as she realises that person she loves and respects so wholly could take this life for herself. However the manner Blanche leads her life- contacting Shep Huntleigh for fiscal support- still demonstrates a complete uncompromising dependence on work forces. At the terminal of the drama, when Stella makes the witting determination to stay with her hubby, Stanley, she has chosen to trust on love, and put her religion and trust in a adult male alternatively of her sister. Williams chooses non to show this determination as a error or a female falling as it is clear that Blanche’s behaviour does non offer nor show a secure hereafter for Stella or for her freshly born kid. One of the most outstanding communications within the drama is that posed by Blanche, as a character we find it improbably hard to sympathise with her, she appears on the surface manipulative and brainsick masked clumsily by sickening girlishness. She comes across in so many ways hardly a adult female at all with her shrill demands and changeless awkward giggling, nevertheless her yesteryear reveals she is far more of a adult female than Stella or Blanche would of all time wish to believe, her shaded life in Bellereeve leaves trails of disconnected muliebrity behind her which subsequently manifests itself in the signifier of barbarous chitchat that accordingly sparks Blanches ruin. Within herself, Blanche views a speedy matrimony to Mitch as a mode of bolting destitution. Blanche’s sexual exuberance is criticized by Stanley and exploited by all the other work forces in her life excepting Mitch, staining her name, and supplying her with a promiscuous repute. This repute, by nature of society, brands Blanche an unfit and unattractive matrimony chance, nevertheless, as she is impoverished, Blanche perceives matrimony as her lone chance for endurance in a bible belt that condemns adult females be pure in order to be a possibility for marriage. When Mitch discards Blanche based on the slander painted by Stanley about her licentious yesteryear, Blanche outright turns to another man- the millionaire Shep Huntleigh- in hope of another marvelous rescuing. Because Blanche is blinded by her dependance on work forces, she loses sight of a realistic construct of salvaging herself from being pushed down, this position has been embedded in her by humanity reprobating her to believe her lone discharge will be if a good honest adult male will marry her, therefore someway wipe outing the shadows of her yesteryear in Bellereeve. Blanche fails to come to footings with the fact that by seting so much accent and trust in work forces she no longer controls the results of her hereafter as she puts her destiny in the custodies of a adult male, therefore finally taking to her descent into insanity. One of the most of import facets of feminism is that gender is a societal concept and if muliebrity is defined strictly through the ironss of society instead than through natural causes, few societies have enforced it more forcefully and with such energies as the American South. The saga that is the southern adult female began in the mid 1800’s which saw a white adult female of a certain standing put on a base. The southern gentleman and society enforced that a adult female be a non-sexual animal, helpless and fragile, this is concentrated and highlighted in Blanche’s behavior as she believes the lone manner for her to look attractive to the opposite sex is to attest herself as hapless and incapable. As a Southern lady, Blanche’s narrowly defined societal function has kept her from acknowledging her natural appetencies and prosecuting them squarely. She has felt obliged to lie to herself and to others. However throughout the drama these concealed desires have revealed themselves in private company, for case her heavy imbibing would be seen as impure by southern society and this is apparent by both Mitch’s and Stanley’s reaction to this trait. Blanches greatest dirt from belle reeve is that she let her sexual nature control her actions therefore spoiling’ her and rendering her a destroyed adult female. To show one’s gender or desires outright reduces a adult female to tainted and impure. Williams has said that he considers Blanche’s character liberated, she has lived such an independent life in such a inhibitory clip she could about be considered heroic were she non so ashamed of her ferocious former independency. In the drama she seeks stableness after the calamity of her life in Belle reeve – ergo her attractive force to Mitch – his incessant and ceaseless boredom consequences in Blanche being capable of carry throughing her cardinal hungriness in this clip of her life, to happen a good hubby. She on a regular basis discourages masculine behavior in Mitch, rendering him the submissive co-part of the relationship, Blanche subconsciously maculates herself by making this. Both sisters have felt the full force of get marrieding for love ( Stella through the physical maltreatment omitted by Stanley and Blanche through the matter of her bi-sexual late hubby ) it could be argued that Allan’s sexual ambiguity led Stella to take an overtly heterosexual working category adult male. Some criticise Williams authorship of Stella as she fails to let go of herself from the appreciation of her opprobrious hubby, showing that Williams nowadayss Stella ( and blanche ) as weak and unqualified nevertheless this unfavorable judgment is unfair as Williams would hold been composing before any signifier of feminist motion arose, intending that Williams himself was composing strictly from observation of his Southern America. Williams himself as a homosexual male experienced the same struggles as these adult females being considered a 2nd category citizen or an other’ The stoping of the drama, coatings polemically for womens rightists turn toing the issue of colza, nevertheless Williams does non present Blanche as victim, although the tone of sympathy chiefly lies with the adult females of the drama Blanche manifests herself as a worthy opposition, she has allured Stanley with provocative remarks and engaged in verbal conflicts with him throughout the drama. She has non proved a weak antagonist at any minute and at the flood tide of the drama smashes a bottle and threatens to ’twist it into his face . Stanley does non ravish Blanche in order to re-instate his power in the house instead than as a conflict for place of alpha-male, as from the beginning of the drama Blanche has threatened this place, she has drunk his intoxicant, manipulated his married woman and this pinnacle marks the terminal conflict of this on-going power-struggle. Stanley is non minimizing Blanche or adult females in general by ravishing her instead he experience it is his last resort in order to hold triumph therefore turn outing he sees her as a echt bullying. Stanley says we’ve had this day of the month with each other from the beginning’ screening that she was a direct menace from the beginning and the fact that it could connote that the act was pre-meditated is the lone indicant of calculated cold- blooded inhuman treatment on Stanley’s behalf. Williams challenges the traditional position of matrimony as posed by cultural standing, presuming that matrimony is the terminal of the narrative, and that matrimony is synonymous with a life-time of joy, wipe outing all hurting from behind that minute. Williams sees matrimony as the start of a life for a adult male, far from the cloud nine that is advertised. Mitch and Stanley represent realistic portrayals of work forces who will invariably jam their adult females into gendered stereotypes and Stella and Blanche will ever compel to protect their ain stature and ( in the instance of Stella ) to shelter their kids.

Business analysis - Essay Example The figure has covered all necessary parts that it could however it represents a very narrowed approach in terms services imported by Australia from US. Instead of the portion of ‘other services’, there should have been defined and represented the services more clearly than just putting them all into one category. Other than that, the diagram perfectly presents the actual message, i.e. increased imports since the last 20 years and does not seem to be misleading. The second figure shown below is a table that discusses the total trade that has been made between US and Australia in four different fiscal years. (Figure 2) The main conclusion that has been actually been drawn from the figure is that the total trade has been increasing between Australia and US. The total exports have risen from 1984-85 to 1999-00, where the pace of rising imports has been faster than imports. Resultantly, the trade balance of Australia has been affected in negative numbers, where the country i s importing more and exporting less to US, but over the trade has been expanded. The data given in the table has projected the authentic information. Therefore, given the context of the information, there might not be need for an improvement in the figure. Additionally, the diagram could be misleading if the currency value had not been defined above, as then the numbers could not describe the actual value in financial terms. The third figure selected is a histogram which shows the levels of foreign investments made in Australia by different countries in the world. (Figure 3) The figure concludes the fact that highest investments have been made by US and the European countries which are directly the part of European Union. The data is selected from the 6 years period, i.e. from 1994-95 to 1999-00. The increasing trend in each case (EU, ASEAN, China/HK, USA, NZ, Japan, and Other) shows that foreign direct investment got an overall increment of 150% in Australia only. A further improve ment in this histogram can be made in terms of separating the significant countries from EU so that they could be individually compared to the FDI made by US alone. The only misleading thing that can be noticed in the figure is about the colors of the bars that represent a specific financial year, as it is a bit confusing as only grey and blue colors have been represented to describe 6 years, whereas different colors could show the figure more clearly to those who don’t understand it well. 2 (B): The data given below in figure (4) is related to the top 15 countries of very high human development index (HDI). The values of HDI of different periods/years are shown below: (Figure 4) The figure represents simple data with HDI of 15 countries over a 31 year period. The one factor common in all the countries is that HDI is increasing, and how much or with what percentage it is increasing can be represented through a histogram, shown in figure 5 below: (Figure 5) The figure above no w shows a clear representation of the values of HDI for 15 countries. A keen look at the picture shows that HDI among the top 15 countries has significantly increased for Norway, Ireland, Germany, Hong Kong, China, Iceland, and Denmark. The mentioned countries seem to

Art history - Essay Example Very little is known about the work or life of the painter. However, it is known that, during this time, the paintings were instrumental in both the Roman Catholic and the Orthodox churches. The painting was almost at the same time as the Madonna on the rocks by Leonardo Da Vinci and Titian Madonna of the house by Pesaro. These three paintings have the same composition of the virgin and the child (p. 204). The painting has several characters from the bible, the primary figures being the virgin and the child as the centerpiece. In this painting, the child (Christ) is borne on a litter that is decorated with rose petals which are red and white in color. This signifies a marriage between the church and Mary Ecclesia, the church and Christ himself. The litter on which the child sits is held up by two angels. This is an act in the painting is meant to create the hierarchy of the painting. Behind the image, there is a parapet which is white in color. Behind the parapet, John the Baptist and Jerome are reading a book. In the background, there is a rock which is surrounded by a river. This gives the painting a feeling of some movement. The background image also consists of several people praying. The background also shows a beautiful landscape with a lot of activities in the background (P, 216). In Madonna on the rocks, the painting shows a photo of the Virgin Mary, the child (Christ) and John the Baptist as an infant. In this piece, they are arranged in a triangular manner. The background has rocks but, has a distant landscape of water and mountains. In this painting, the Virgin Mary is the apex of the figure which forms the shape of a pyramid. The composition of this painting is almost similar to that of Madonna and Child with Saints and Angels. However, there are slight differences. This includes the Madonna and Child with Saints and Angels where the background is an open space while in the Madonna on the rocks the background is
